Many countries are moving on to the use of solar PV energy generation systems for large-scale electricity generation. This is because it is a clean, renewable energy source with almost zero maintenance costs. It is estimated that solar PV electricity energy generation increased by 23% from 2019 to 2020, to reach a record high of 156 TWh.
Abstract: This chapter presents the important features of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and an overview of electrical storage technologies. The basic unit of a solar PV generation system is a solar cell, which is a P‐N junction diode. The power electronic converters used in solar systems are usually DC‐DC converters and DC‐AC converters.
Among renewable energy sources solar energy attract more attention and many studies have focused on using solar energy for electricity generation. Here, in this study, solar energy technologies are reviewed to find out the best option for electricity generation. Using solar energy to generate electricity can be done either directly and indirectly.
Based on this research, it is possible to infer that the primary goals of optimization approaches are to reduce investment, operation and maintenance costs, and emissions in order to improve system dependability. This paper also includes a brief overview of several solar energy optimization problems and issues.
The major factors that limit the use of solar energy for various applications is that, it is cyclic time-dependent energy source. Therefore, solar system requires energy storage to provide energy in the absence of insolation . Comprehensive research and advancement in energy storage technologies offers benefits for solar in energy application.
In order to develop a system, it is necessary to consider social acceptance. The necessity of social acceptance of solar power systems are reported in several studies. 129, 130 Results from reviewed articles showed that social acceptance play a key role in development of various technologies.
