Lithium-ion battery (LIB) uniformity has remarkable influence on the durability and safety of the battery pack. It is therefore important to assemble batteries with good consistency in a pack. This paper proposes a new LIB uniformity sorting method based on some internal criteria.
The electric bus studied in the present work, has two battery packs, each comprised six modules. Each module contains 1008 cylindrical 18,650 lithium-ion batteries (see Fig. 2 ). Since including a detailed model of the entire battery pack in the finite element analysis is not computationally possible, a homogenization approach was required.
There was no substantial literature on the busbar attached with a Li-ion battery. Hence, the present study details the application of an effective FSWed Al-Cu busbar to a Li-ion battery pack. The FSW busbar has advantages over other welding techniques in the perspective of mechanical and electrical properties.
Abstract: The performance of a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack is not only related to the behavior of the individual cells within the pack, but also presents a strong interdependency with the temperature distributions, interconnect resistance between cells, and the cell’s physical location within the complete battery pack.
Battery equalization [ 7] and battery uniformity sorting techniques are two existing techniques to address inconsistency of battery packs. Battery uniformity sorting is to sort out the batteries with good uniformity and integrate them into the same battery packs.
