Abstract:A severe energy crisis has plagued Yemen for decades, and most of the population lack access to electricity. This hasharmed the country’s economic, social, and industrial growth. Yemen generates electricity mainly from fossil fuels, despite having a high potential for renewable energy.
Traditional biomass – the burning of charcoal, crop waste, and other organic matter – is not included. This can be an important source in lower-income settings. Yemen: How much of the country’s electricity comes from nuclear power? Nuclear power – alongside renewables – is a low-carbon source of electricity.
As Houthi control spread across the country and the political climate became more precarious, the energy sector was drastically affected. Foreign firms operating in Yemen were forced to abandon operations and evacuate staff.
Yemen generates electricity mainly from fossil fuels, despite having a high potential for renewable energy. Unfortunately, the situation has recently been compounded bythe country’s continuing war, which has been ongoing since early 2015.
