Solid state Li-ion batteries In general, the solid-state batteries differ from liquid electrolytes battery in their predominantly utilize a solid electrolyte. Lithium-ion batteries are composed of cathode, anode, and solid electrolyte. In order to improve the electrical conductivity of the battery, the anode is connected to a copper foil .
The ideal flexible solid-state lithium-ion battery needs to have not only a high energy density, but also good mechanical properties. We have taken a systematic and comprehensive overview of our work in two main areas: flexible materials and flexible structures.
ISEs, SPEs, and GPEs are the most used electrolytes in LIBs, which are solid and can cope with the various deformation needs of batteries. Moreover, solid electrolytes can inhibit the growth of dendrites and have the advantages of thermal stability, mechanical strength, flexibility, and denseness.
Among rechargeable technologies, lithium ion batteries (LIBs) are the most mature technology, currently leading as the power and energy supplier for technological applications due to the comparatively superior performance in most aspects [2, 3].
“Lithium metal anode batteries are considered the holy grail of batteries because they have ten times the capacity of commercial graphite anodes and could drastically increase the driving distance of electric vehicles,” said Xin Li, Associate Professor of Materials Science at SEAS and senior author of the paper.
The research not only describes a new way to make solid state batteries with a lithium metal anode but also offers new understanding into the materials used for these potentially revolutionary batteries. The research is published in Nature Materials.
