Batteries provide high energy density. Supercapacitors have lower energy density than batteries, but high power density because they can be discharged almost instantaneously. The electrochemical processes in a battery take more time to deliver energy to a load. Both devices have features that fit specific energy storage needs (Figure 1).
Range-anxiety, recharge rate and cost all combine to induce a hesitation to reach for the credit card. Mixing the spice of a supercapacitor with the stamina of a battery might overcome at least the first two of these objections, and thus, at last, truly launch an era of carefree electric motoring.
Abstract: The objective is to use the excess energy of generator and using it in super capacitor which is further used to enhance the battery life of the vehicle. Supercapacitor are energy storage device that exhibit such unique feature as high capacitance, high power density, and a long life cycle.
In the proposed block diagram ,the combination of super capacitor and lead acid battery is used to drive the given load. Here, source is the generator of vehicle and is connected to charger. Through the charger the first preference of charging will be given to the battery.
Supercapacitors may replace coin cell batteries in many applications, such as memory backup power. The Eaton KVR-5R0C155-R (Figure 2, right) is a 1.5 F supercapacitor rated at a maximum working voltage of 5 volts. Its package dimensions are similar to those of a 20 mm coin cell. It can deliver a peak power of 0.208 watts.
The converter operates in CV mode indefinitely to keep the supercap charged to 5 V. Due to large selection of Li-ion chargers on the market, it seems reasonable to use a Li-ion charger to charge a supercapacitor. A Li-ion charge profile is show in Figure 2-6. Figure 2-6. Li-ion Charge Profile
