The inverter stage is bidirectional, enabling power conversion from DC stage to AC stage and vice versa. The topology is constituted by an H-Bridge with each group of diagonal switches operating at high frequency during one half-wave of output voltage.
Today this is state of the art that these systems have a power conversion system (PCS) for battery storage integrated. This application note outlines the most relevant power topology considerations for designing power stages commonly used in Solar Inverters and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). Figure 2-1.
Figure 4-8 and Table 4-2 show the efficiency of the bidirectional DC/DC converter functioning in buck mode at 400V DC-link output. The input battery voltages considered are 80V, 160V, 240V, and 320V and the table shows that the converter achieves peak efficiencies of 97.9%, 99.0%, 99.2%, and 99.4% respectively. Figure 4-8.

The MPPT DC/DC power stage performs the function of translating multiples of MPPT voltage of a panel (depending on the number of panels in a string) to a stable voltage level suitable for the inverter or DC/DC stage for battery input.

V2G needs “Bi-Directional” Power Flow. Ability to change direction of power transfer quickly. High efficiency >97% (End to End) at power levels up to 22KW.
With the additional possibility of energy storage via batteries, hybrid string inverters provide a good outlet to maximize the power utilization of the string input, and also provide an alternate pathway to supply the grid during night or low irradiation scenarios.
