To investigate the cycle life capabilities of lithium iron phosphate based battery cells during fast charging, cycle life tests have been carried out at different constant charge current rates. The experimental analysis indicates that the cycle life of the battery degrades the more the charge current rate increases.
Since its first introduction by Goodenough and co-workers, lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4, LFP) became one of the most relevant cathode materials for Li-ion batteries and is also a promising candidate for future all solid-state lithium metal batteries.
This study offers guidance for the intrinsic safety design of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and isolating the reactions between the anode and HF, as well as between LiPF 6 and H 2 O, can effectively reduce the flammability of gases generated during thermal runaway, representing a promising direction. 1. Introduction
When the battery is overcharged, the failure tendency of the battery cell rises, and the current collector of lithium ion battery starts to melt. Battery cells should not be cycled immediately after an overcharge phase, since this might produce an internal short circuit and potentially thermal runaway.
The cathode materials of lithium ion batteries play a significant role in improving the electrochemical performance of the battery. Different cathode materials have been developed to remove possible difficulties and enhance properties.
Following this research, Kassem et al. carried out a similar analysis on lithium iron phosphate based batteries at three different temperatures (30 °C, 45 °C, 60 °C) and at three storage charge conditions (30%, 65%, 100% SoC). They observed that the capacity fade increases faster with the storage temperature compared to the state of charge .
