I am sorry to inform you that as of now, we do not have any such options in Windows 8 to display the battery charge level on its Modern User Interface. However, you can search for any Apps from the Windows Store, which displays the battery charge level of your laptop on it tile when pinned to the Start Screen of your computer.

When you’re in the Start screen, simply move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen to view the taskbar which includes the battery status icon in the system tray. Battery Level is a free app designed to show battery status on the Start screen of your Windows 8/8.1 Start screen.
The system can charge the battery to 100%, but that doesn't mean that the battery is still working optimally. As you can see from the following screenshot, my own battery has a design capacity of 48,400 Mwh, but since the laptop is 15 months old now, that has reduced to 35,574 mWh.
