China has been incorporating the development of advanced battery technologies, particularly lithium-ion battery technologies, in the Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development (from 6th to 14th), and the continuous investments have enabled China to become the leading country to produce Li-ion batteries.
Empirically, we study the new energy vehicle battery (NEVB) industry in China since the early 2000s. In the case of China's NEVB industry, an increasingly strong and complicated coevolutionary relationship between the focal TIS and relevant policies at different levels of abstraction can be observed.
Conclusive summary and perspective Lithium-ion batteries are considered to remain the battery technology of choice for the near-to mid-term future and it is anticipated that significant to substantial further improvement is possible.
In particular, high-energy density lithium-ion batteries are considered as the ideal power source for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in the automotive industry, in recent years. This review discusses key aspects of the present and the future battery technologies on the basis of the working electrode.
The global demand for batteries is surging as the world looks to rapidly electrify vehicles and store renewable energy. Lithium ion batteries, which are typically used in EVs, are difficult to recycle and require huge amounts of energy and water to extract.
In fact, compared to other emerging battery technologies, lithium-ion batteries have the great advantage of being commercialized already, allowing for at least a rough estimation of what might be possible at the cell level when reporting the performance of new cell components in lab-scale devices.
