The new rules also prohibit discrimination of storage compared to other technologies. EU member states have until 2021 to turn this into law. Brussels’ support is also shown by its backing of the European Battery Alliance (EBA), launched in 2017. The EBA targets self-sufficiency of raw materials in battery production, such as lithium.
