Based on the specific mass and specific volume heat generation power densities, the heat generation levels of battery cells with different material and structural forms can be conveniently compared. Moreover, it is convenient to define the heat source term in the simulation of the thermal management system.
In summary, the specific heat capacity of a battery is an important parameter, especially for the thermal modelling and heat generation measurement of battery cells.
Accurately testing the heat generation of a battery is necessary for the design of a thermal management system. Specific heat capacity is one of the most important parameters of thermophysical properties, and its accurate measurement is a prerequisite for the quantitative analysis of battery heat generation.
In this method, the battery was heated with a heating film whose power is known. The heat emission from the film was quantified through the controlled manipulation of heating duration. During the heating process, the temperature of the battery was recorded, and the value was used to figure out the battery’s specific heat capacity.
It is a typical multi-parameter problem and traditional empirical fitting methods are not suitable. In this paper, based on the analysis of existing methods for calculating HGR of batteries, experiments were carried out on the heat generation law of 18 650 lithium batteries.
