Investing in a telecom battery backup system is always one of the priorities for telecommunication operators in the 5G era. Sunwoda 48V telecom batteries have a capacity covering 50Ah-150Ah, which can easily meet the power backup needs of macro and micro base stations.
Batteries are classically used as backup in case of power outages in telecommunications networks to keep the services always active. Recently, network operators use the batteries as a demand response lever, so as to reduce the energy costs and to generate revenues in the energy market.
In this work, we study how the telecommunications operator can optimize the use of a battery over a given horizon to reduce energy costs and to perform load curtailments efficiently, as long as the safety usage rules are respected.
Finlands’s Elisa announced a 150MWh rollout across its network in February while Deutsche Telekom began a 300MWh deployment the same month. This year has also seen US$50 million fundraises by Caban and Polarium, both energy storage system (ESS) solution providers which have made the telecommunications segment a key focus.
Conventional telecommunication rooms use lead-acid batteries for power backup. The normal operating temperature of lead-acid batteries ranges from 20°C to 25°C, while the operating temperature range of telecom equipment, power supply, diesel generator and air conditioner is wide. Lead-acid batteries become the key heat sensitive source.
