Your computer's internal power supply might have a problem, based on the scenario you just described. A common fix that I use with clients who ask me, and whenever I am having issues, is to unplug the battery and the power cord, and press and hold the power button for 60 seconds to eliminate all charge built up in the computer.
Your power supply doesn't have it's own power switch so it relies on the BIOS to check the chassis switch and turn on when requested. The BIOS would be running in standby mode (or maybe even off) waiting for the power button press, but everything else would be off.
Shutdown the computer. Unplug AC adapter. Hold the power button for 30 seconds at minimum. Plug in AC adapter. Let the computer load the battery at full capacity. When did your laptop start doing this? If it was around the time of the update to 1709, I'd recommend rolling that back and seeing if that helps.
The battery will be charged fully to 100%, then the computer states that it's running on AC line. After a few days, when the battery level drops below 95%, the charging will begin again until 100%. The shutting down occurs even when th battery is fully charge, and the laptop is on AC line.
The BIOS then tells the power supply to turn off because "Restore on AC Power Loss" is disabled. Your power supply doesn't have it's own power switch so it relies on the BIOS to check the chassis switch and turn on when requested.
If this doesn't help, you might have a defective battery. However, in normal circumstances, you should be able to remove the battery/charger as long as one or the other is present (a computer only needs one power source, two is helpful in case one fails.) If both are present and the computer fails, this might signify internal power problems.
Power supply dies when plugged into laptop
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual electricity. Reboot the laptop. There is a centre pin in the adapter''s plug (the end that connects to your laptop''s jack/port). If that centre pin is broken or bent, then that is the cause. If it''s bent, you could try gently to straighten it.
