A hybrid system ensures a continuous energy supply when solar power alone is insufficient. Solar cold storage systems require regular maintenance of solar panels, batteries, and cooling units, which can be challenging in remote areas or for users lacking technical expertise. Some SCSSs are technically complex and present lower efficiency.
For this purpose, a hybrid inverter has been employed to switch at any mode on requirement, but the principal objective of the study was to run the cold storage unit on solar energy with a cooling/brine pad backup for night cooling. The research work started in different phases to optimize the system in steps.
Therefore, integration of such cooling pads is useful technology for a cold storage system run by solar energy. This solar-hybrid technology can play a vital role in addressing the decentralized storage of various agricultural products to reduce losses with minimum energy requirements for the addition of value and generation of income.
The integration of cold thermal energy storage with a solar refrigeration system (SRS) will be the next-generation alternative for battery-based backup, which has the potential to run the system at low cost and net-zero carbon emission-based F&V storage. CTES is classified into latent and sensible heat-based energy storage.
In order to overcome this challenge, energy storage systems and new control strategies are needed to smooth the fluctuations of solar energy and ensure consistent cooling output. However, integrating energy storage with solar cooling systems and their interaction with load requires a considerable initial investment.
It delves into key aspects of energy consumption and performance, showcasing advancements in achieving higher efficiency and enhanced cooling capacity through the hybrid systems. Additionally, the review highlights research gaps in the existing literature, emphasizing the need for further exploration in this interdisciplinary field.
