Most technologies are not passed down in a single lineage. The development of energy storage technology (EST) has become an important guarantee for solving the volatility of renewable energy (RE) generation and promoting the transformation of the power system.
Capacity expansion modelling (CEM) approaches need to account for the value of energy storage in energy-system decarbonization. A new Review considers the representation of energy storage in the CEM literature and identifies approaches to overcome the challenges such approaches face when it comes to better informing policy and investment decisions.
The development of energy storage technologies is crucial for addressing the volatility of RE generation and promoting the transformation of the power system.
To promote the development of energy storage, various governments have successively introduced a series of policy measures. Since 2009, the United States has enacted relevant policies to support and promote the research and demonstration application of energy storage.
Additionally, with the large-scale development of electrochemical energy storage, all economies should prioritize the development of technologies such as recycling of end-of-life batteries, similar to Europe. Improper handling of almost all types of batteries can pose threats to the environment and public health .
