Serpentine tubes are more suitable for cylindrical cell liquid cooling heat transfer solutions.
This is due to the fact that the pressure drop was minimized by widening the cooling path, while maintaining the same flow rate. As the channel width of the cooling plate increased, the average temperature of the battery module decreased; however, the temperature difference between the upper and lower parts of the module increased. With the increasing application of the lithium-ion battery, higher requirements are put forward for battery thermal management systems. Compared with other cooling methods, liquid cooling is an efficient cooling method, which can control the maximum temperature and maximum temperature difference of the battery within an acceptable range.
Orthogonal analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of each variable on the cooling performance of the battery module. It was confirmed that increasing the number of channels was the most effective method for improving the cooling performance and reducing the pumping power.
