With regards to the continuous advances in the solar cell technology, and rapid developments of efficient and affordable photovoltaic panels, solar energy integration will witness a significant increase in installed capacity to a point where it will dominate the wind power by 2025, hydropower by 2030, and coal-fired plants capacity by 2040.
Energy systems integration application Over the past years, much attention has been given to integration of solar energy in multi-generation systems capable of producing power, heat, and cooling energy. Integrated Energy Systems is looking at how energy systems can connect together and operate in an integrated manner.
It was presented that the proposed integration could achieve 14.6% primary energy saving due to the implemented solar field. Additionally, the CHP and integrated solar system could also achieve a thermal efficiency of 44% and 56%, respectively.
The solar field was integrated in a way to take advantage of EuroTrough collectors (72% optical efficiency), Dowtherm-A synthetic oil as heat transfer fluid, and Schott PTR-70 absorber tubes.
Ren, Wei, and Zhai (2020) proposed a hybrid CCHP system, and two different solar energy utilising systems are evaluated. The NSGA-II algorithm is used to search for the Pareto front solution of the multi-objective optimisation model considering economic, energy and environmental performance.
