Here you will learn how to calculate the annual energy output of a photovoltaic solar installation. r is the yield of the solar panel given by the ratio : electrical power (in kWp) of one solar panel divided by the area of one panel. Example : the solar panel yield of a PV module of 250 Wp with an area of 1.6 m2 is 15.6%.
Because the light used in PV applications contains many different wavelengths, many different generation rates must be taken into account when designing a solar cell. The generation rate gives the number of electrons generated at each point in the device due to the absorption of photons. Generation is an important parameter in solar cell operation.
The generation rate has been normalized. To calculate the generation for a collection of different wavelengths, the net generation is the sum of the generation for each wavelength. The generation as a function of distance for a standard solar spectrum (AM 1.5) incident on a piece of silicon is shown below.
A solar cell efficiency is defined as the maximum output power (PM) divided by the input power (PIN). It is measured in percentage (%), which indicates that this percentage of input sunlight power is converted to electrical power. The input power is power density. Therefore, to calculate efficiency multiply PIN at STC by area.
When we connect N-number of solar cells in series then we get two terminals and the voltage across these two terminals is the sum of the voltages of the cells connected in series. For example, if the of a single cell is 0.3 V and 10 such cells are connected in series than the total voltage across the string will be 0.3 V × 10 = 3 Volts.
The sunlight is a group of photons having a finite amount of energy. For the generation of electricity by the cell, it must absorb the energy of the photon. The absorption depends on the energy of the photon and the band-gap energy of the solar semiconductor material and it is expressed in electron-volt (eV).

Solar Panel Energy Efficiency and Degradation Over Time
Solar Efficiency in Percentage(%) = ((Maximum Power /Area)/(1000)) * 100%. Maximum Power is the highest amount of energy output of the panel, written in watts (W). Area means the surface area of the solar panel, which is written in square meters (sq.m.). For example, the maximum power of a panel is 200W and has an area of 1 sq. m.
