Carbon electrode-based perovskite solar cells require a high-quality interface between the hole transport layer and the electrode. Here, lamination using an isostatic press is used to form this interface, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 16.9% for a 5.5 cm2 area device.
After optimizing the applied temperature, we found both the electrical and mechanical properties of the carbon electrode were significantly enhanced by using the hot-pressing process at 80 °C, leading to remarkable enhancement of the device performance. An outstanding PCE of 15.3% with high reproducibility and negligible hysteresis was obtained.
Finally, thanks to the dense carbon layer after the hot-pressing process, the hot-pressing-treated PSCs also show improved stability at ambient conditions. After all, the hot-pressing method seems to be an effective method for developing high-efficiency, reproducible, and stable carbon-based PSCs.
Meanwhile, the hot-pressing carbon films show that the graphite flakes in the carbon paste are horizontally aligned, and the carbon electrode and the perovskite layer are tightly connected ( Figure 2 d); thus, effective carrier transportation can be guaranteed.
Using the isostatic press, extremely high pressure could be applied without localised stress to laminate pre-coated electrodes from a carrier film to the PSC device stack to form an effective physical and electrical contact at the interface between the electrode and HTL, on par with vacuum evaporation deposition.
The hot pressing has been widely used to form the desired shapes of the materials, such as metal, plastic, composite powders, and ceramic. , , This process can overcome the solvent compatibility constraints and thermal budgeting limitations experienced during the stacking process.
