The cost of Si-based solar cells has been reduced by a great extent in recent times. The learning curve of PV predicts a 20% dip in the price of the solar cell modules for every doubling of the cumulative shipped volume. It can be seen that high conversion efficiencies will be the central point for further reduction in solar electricity costs.
Durability and Longevity: Ensuring the long-term stability and durability of solar cells is crucial for maintaining high efficiency over their operational lifetimes . The efficiency drive in future solar cell technology is essential for accelerating the widespread adoption of solar energy as a primary source of electricity generation.
Another issue is the degradation and durability of organic solar cells, where strong encapsulation is required to retain the performance of organic solar cells. Grätzel et al. pioneered and first reported dye-sensitised solar cell research in 1991, and these cells are commonly referred to as Grätzel cells (O’Regan and Grätzel 1991).
