Doha, Qatar: Whenever the wife of Spain right-back Pedro Porro asks their nearly one-year-old son how his father celebrates his goals, little ‘Pedrito’ plops down on the floor and raises his very small fist. Unfortunately, a small fever prevented Pedrito from being at Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final against France, with Porro’s mother staying behind to take care of the infant.

But that was not about to stop Porro from having a special father-son moment after he scored the second goal in La Roja’s 2-0 victory over Les Bleus. Imitating little Pedrito, Porro sat down on the pristine Dallas Stadium grass and raised his hand skyward.

“[My mother] didn’t come because my little one had a fever,” said Porro about the celebration. “It’s normal – it could be teething, growing pains, or any number of things. It was the highlight of a magical day for Porro, who just 24 hours earlier commented to assembled reporters that he hoped Tuesday would “be Lamine Yamal’s day”.

As it turns out, much of the final four encounter belonged to Porro himself, who scored his second goal at these global finals when he polished off a slick one-two combination with Dani Olmo.

His two goals puts him in rarefied air, with the Tottenham man equalling the legendary Fernando Hierro for most World Cup goals by a Spain defender with two.

“I’m very happy about that statistic, but I think the victory belongs to the team,” said Porro. “The victory belongs to the 26 of us, to the coaching staff, to everyone supporting us back home, to everyone here cheering us on. Mohamed Salah has not decided his next club, but his agent Ramy Abbas says the Egypt captain could make a decision soon.

“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season, but we may know very soon,” Abbas wrote on Friday.

Abbas also rejected claims that the forward’s team holds talks with unsuitable clubs to create speculation.

“It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn’t want to play for, just for the sake of noise,” he added.

Abbas did not name any clubs or reveal which offers Salah is considering.

However, these comments offer the clearest update from Salah’s camp after weeks of reports linking the 34-year-old with clubs in Europe, Saudi Arabia, MLS, and Turkey.

Rumors about a move to Turkey grew after Abbas traveled to Istanbul. Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk also dismissed the idea of signing Salah. He said the club has not discussed the player and added that he expects him to choose another destination, rather than Turkey.

Salah made his final Liverpool appearance in a 1-1 draw against Brentford at Anfield on May 24.

He scored 257 goals in 442 matches for Liverpool, helping the team win eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

The forward delayed his decision until after Egypt’s World Cup campaign. Egypt reached the round of 16 but lost 3-2 to Argentina on July 7 after leading by two goals.

Neither Salah nor Abbas has set a date for an announcement. Still, the agent’s comments suggest a decision could come soon.

Besiktas have reportedly made an offer to Mohamed Salah, as the Egyptian captain reduced his initial €15 million annual salary demand.

According to reports, Salah’s representatives arrived in Istanbul to continue talks with the Super Lig club.

Besiktas is said to have made its first formal approach to Salah’s camp. According to Turkish journalist Efecan Öztaş, the meeting between the two sides “went positively,” adding that the 34-year-old is “inclined to wearing a jersey in Turkey.”

Earlier reports placed Salah’s initial annual salary demand at €15 million. His wage request represented the main obstacle to a deal. Both sides continued talks to reduce the total cost.

The latest claims contradict comments from Besiktas president Serdal Adalı three days earlier. On July 14, Adalı dismissed the reports linking Salah with the club.

Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, provided an earlier update on Friday. He did not identify any potential destination.

“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season, but we may know very soon,” Abbas wrote.

Salah most recently represented Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. He recorded one goal and two assists across five appearances.

Pyramids FC have appointed South African coach Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach, as Krunoslav Jurcic ends his tenure in Cairo.

Mokwena will take charge for the 2026/27 season after a brief spell with Libyan club Al Ittihad Tripoli. The 39-year-old signed a one-year contract with an option for a one-season extension.

Pyramids had tracked Mokwena for two years before completing the appointment, according to reports.

Mokwena previously managed Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca, and MC Alger. He won successive South African league titles and the 2023 African Football League with Sundowns.

The South African also guided MC Alger to the Algerian Super Cup. He left the club in March while they led the domestic league.

Pyramids thanked Jurcic and his staff following the end of their contracts. The Croatian coach joined the club in February 2024.

Jurcic managed the Cairo side in 132 matches across all competitions. He recorded 89 wins, 25 draws, and 18 defeats during his tenure.

His first trophy came in the 2023/24 Egypt Cup after Pyramids defeated ZED 1-0 to secure the first major title in their history.

The Croatian then led Pyramids to their maiden CAF Champions League crown in June 2025. His side beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate in the final, becoming Egypt’s fourth African champion.

Pyramids later added the CAF Super Cup and FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup. They beat Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli 3-1 to win the latter competition.

Jurcic completed his five-trophy spell with another Egypt Cup in May. Pyramids defeated ZED 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy for a second time.
