Baartman Reflects on Perseverance After MOTM Performance
Kaizer Chiefs attacker Luke Baartman expressed his gratitude to his coach and teammates following his Man of the Match performance against Kruger United.

The 20-year-old was named in Amakhosi’s starting line up and played 85 minutes before he was taken off and replaced by Pule Mmodi, who saw out the rest of the match.
Baartman admits his performance was a reward for his perseverance and a special tribute to his grandmother and everyone who has supported him throughout his journey.
“I want to give thanks to the man above,” Baartman told SuperSport after the game.
“I think this one is going straight to my granny, to my community.
“It’s been a tough season, last season for me. I’ve only been playing five games, started the last game.
“I just want to give thanks to the coach for believing in me and trusting me, and thanks to my teammates as well.”

Manchester United : Marc Skinner quitte son poste d’entraîneur
Manchester United a annoncé ce lundi la fin de l’aventure de Marc Skinner à la tête de son équipe féminine. Le club a confirmé que l’entraîneur anglais quittait ses fonctions après cinq saisons sur le banc des Red Devils.
Dans un communiqué publié sur ses réseaux sociaux, Manchester United a tenu à rendre hommage à son désormais ex-technicien : « Marc Skinner a quitté son poste d’entraîneur de l’équipe féminine de Manchester United. Nous souhaitons lui adresser nos plus sincères remerciements pour son importante contribution au cours des cinq dernières années. »
Arrivé en 2021, Skinner aura notamment conduit les Red Devils à leur premier grand trophée avec la FA Cup remportée en 2024.

OPINION: Decision by Comrades Marathon members could result in overhaul of SA athletics
The decision made by Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) members at a special general meeting (SGM) over the weekend might be remembered as a watershed moment for South African road running.
Members met on Saturday to vote on whether or not they wanted the prestigious race to stay affiliated to provincial and national federations.
And the result is likely to have far-reaching implications on the sport, with federations being pushed into a corner and forced to play ball.
The battle started a couple of years ago when KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) tried to stop Comrades runners outside the province from becoming CMA members, with the provincial body losing the fight in court.
Then, due to conflict with KZNA, the CMA attempted to sidestep the provincial federation by affiliating itself directly to Athletics South Africa (ASA).
This didn’t work, however, with ASA stating that the Comrades race had to fall under the jurisdiction of KZNA.
So the CMA board gave the organisation’s members a choice: either remain sanctioned or cut ties with the sport’s governing bodies.
The members spoke loudly and clearly, with the overwhelming majority of people voting at the SGM in favour of independence.

And though the CMA says it will continue engaging with KZNA, the provincial body comes to the table with very little bargaining power moving forward.
Considering the popularity of the Comrades Marathon and the influence it has on South African road running, KZNA needs to be ready to listen if they want CMA to keep them in the loop.
If the provincial federation doesn’t find a way to meet Comrades in the middle, rather than trying to assert its control over the race, Comrades will become an unaffiliated ‘fun run’.
And if other races follow suit, based on the funding model of the sport, South African athletics will need to be overhauled or it could collapse.
The CMA is ready to flaunt its power, and athletics federations need to accept the lesson they are about to learn.
Governing bodies do not merely exist to claim levies while throwing their weight around, and if they don’t operate reasonably and make positive contributions, they will lose control.
Cardoso determined to avoid another trophyless PSL season
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is determined to ensure the Brazilians do not suffer another trophyless campaign on the domestic front.
Sundowns endured a frustrating 2025/26 season in the cup competitions, suffering three knockout exits before eventually relinquishing the Betway Premiership title to Orlando Pirates.
The Brazilians were eliminated from the MTN8 by Pirates on penalties following a two-legged semi-final before suffering a similar fate against Marumo Gallants in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout. Their Nedbank Cup campaign also ended at the last-16 stage after they lost 2-0 to TS Galaxy.
“We need to honour the badge we have and play to win every match. Last season, unfortunately we went out of cup competitions twice by penalties,” Cardoso said to the club’s media.
“Let’s hope this year we can take the competition to 90 minutes so that we don’t need to go to moments where things can fall for other teams.”
Sundowns were granted special leave from the opening round of Betway Premiership fixtures at the weekend following the tragic passing of midfielder Jayden Adams.
Their clash against Marumo Gallants was subsequently postponed to August 19, meaning Masandawana will begin their campaign on Saturday when they welcome Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final.
Cardoso expects a difficult test against Polokwane, but insists Sundowns must focus on making a strong start themselves.
“Polokwane City is a tough opponent, and we played them towards the end of last season. They have a new coach and new dynamics for sure,” Cardoso added.
“We have to worry about how we can start stronger ourselves in the first match. Mentally, deal with the difficulties that the match will have.
“Most of all, deal with the objectives that we have. The objectives are clear and we need to play every match to win.”
The Portuguese tactician was speaking after Sundowns concluded their pre-season tour of Austria, where they drew 1-1 with German side Hertha Berlin, lost 2-0 to Karim Benzema’s Al-Hilal and drew 1-1 with Algerian giants MC Alger.
They rounded off the tour with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Qatar side Al-Sailiya as Cardoso used the matches to assess his squad ahead of the new campaign.
“We played some tough opponents along the way and had positive outcomes. We had to deal with different situations,” Cardoso concluded.
“We worked every day with a strong development of the team and gathering energy for physical development and team building, while receiving the new players and making them feel part of the family.”
