Kabras Sugar RFC clinch Dala 7s trophy to secure their first 2026 Kenya National Sevens Circuit title
Kabras Sugar RFC secured their first title of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit, reclaiming the Dala 7s crown by defeating Menengai Oilers 17-5 in a come-from-behind victory. The final took place on Sunday, 2 August 2026, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
This “RAI Derby” renewed a rivalry last seen in the 2024 tournament final, where Kabras triumphed over Menengai Oilers 24-5. Two years later, the Oilers sought revenge, while Kabras aimed to reclaim the title after losing last year’s final to KCB Rugby at the same venue.
The opening half was a cagey and physical affair, with both teams displaying disciplined defensive lines and creating few clear-cut opportunities. rocore.sbs
Menengai Oilers eventually broke the deadlock just seconds before half-time when John Okoth burst through the Kabras defence on the left to score the opening try. Glacious Owino’s conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Oilers with a narrow 5-0 lead at the break.
Kabras responded immediately after the restart, exploiting the same channel Menengai had used in the first half after the teams switched ends. Jackson Siketa offloaded to Rayvone Ambale, who raced over for the equalising try. However, Ambale failed to add the conversion, keeping the scores level at 5-5.
The turning point occurred moments later when Menengai Oilers’ Calvin Mulewa was sent to the sin bin, leaving his side with a numerical disadvantage. Kabras swiftly capitalised; Mathias Osimbo offloaded to Derrick Ashihundu, who beat John Okoth before grounding the ball on the left. Ambale successfully converted, giving Kabras a 12-5 lead.
Ronald Wangila then sealed the victory, collecting Patrick Lumumba Sabatia’s offload to score Kabras’ third try. Although the conversion drifted wide, Kabras comfortably held on to secure a 17-5 win and reclaim the Dala 7s crown.
Kabras captain Griffin Chao described the victory as the perfect response to the previous weekend’s disappointment in the Prinsloo 7s final.
“It’s been a hard fight, especially after last week’s final loss. We had to work it out; we had to make sure that we win this leg and we did it, and we are happy for it,” said Chao.
This triumph marked Kabras’ first title of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit, reclaiming a trophy they last won in 2024, having finished runners-up to KCB Rugby in last year’s final at the same venue.

Officiel : Alseny Soumah s’engage avec le KAA Gent jusqu’en 2031
À seulement 18 ans, Alseny Soumah franchit une étape majeure de sa carrière. Le milieu de terrain guinéen quitte l’Académie Foot Talents de Guinée pour rejoindre le KAA Gent en Belgique. Le jeune espoir a signé un contrat de cinq saisons et poursuivra son développement au sein d’un club reconnu pour la formation des jeunes talents.
Alseny Soumah poursuit son ascension. À 18 ans, le milieu de terrain guinéen s’est officiellement engagé avec le KAA Gent, pensionnaire de l’élite belge.
Dans un communiqué publié ce jour, le club belge a annoncé l’arrivée de la jeune pépite guinéenne, qui a paraphé un contrat de cinq saisons, le liant à La Gantoise jusqu’en 2031.

Évoluant principalement au poste de milieu défensif, Alseny Soumah se distingue par son profil athlétique, sa puissance physique et son volume de jeu. Formé à l’Académie Foot Talents de Guinée, il s’apprête désormais à découvrir le football européen au sein d’une structure réputée pour l’accompagnement et la progression des jeunes joueurs.
Dans un premier temps, le Guinéen intégrera le Jong KAA Gent, l’équipe réserve du club belge. Cette étape devrait lui permettre de poursuivre son apprentissage, de s’adapter progressivement aux exigences du football européen et de se rapprocher de l’équipe première.
Ce transfert marque une nouvelle avancée dans la carrière du jeune milieu de terrain, qui tentera désormais de confirmer tout son potentiel sous les couleurs de La Gantoise.

Tennis : La Russe Kristina Liutova sacrée à Memphis
Kristina Liutova dans l’histoire. Au bout d’un véritable conte de fées, la jeune Russe de 16 ans, issue des qualifications, a remporté ce dimanche le tournoi WTA 250 de Memphis, où elle a battu la Tchèque Darja Vidmanova en finale. Bien mal embarquée après le premier set, où elle semblait submergée par l’enjeu, la pépite russe s’est redressée pour venir à bout de sa rivale, pourtant plus expérimentée (23 ans, 114e mondiale), en trois manches (1-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Première joueuse née en 2010 à se hisser en finale d’un tournoi du circuit WTA, la 223e joueuse mondiale devient la plus jeune joueuse à remporter un tournoi du circuit depuis Coco Gauff, âgée de 15 ans et 7 mois lors de sa victoire au WTA 250 de Linz (Autriche) en 2019. Liutova disputé dans le Tennessee son tout premier tournoi sur le circuit principal.
Grâce à cette victoire, Liutova va faire un bond au classement et figurer à la 126e position avec la mise à jour du classement. Elle avait débuté la saison à la 714e place mondiale.

Deon Fourie has urged his Stormers teammates to savour every second of Friday night’s historic meeting with the All Blacks, where many of them will face the haka for the first and possibly last time.
The clash at Cape Town Stadium opens the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour and marks the first time in half a century that the Stormers have the opportunity to take on New Zealand. Western Province upset the All Blacks 12-11 in 1976.
For Fourie, who faced the All Blacks in the 2023 World Cup final, the significance of the occasion extends far beyond the result.
“It’s a massive occasion. I was fortunate enough to play one game against the All Blacks, but probably 80 or 90% of these guys won’t get that opportunity again.
“If you don’t play for the Springboks, you’ll never face the haka or play against the All Blacks. So what a massive occasion. Fifty years on, we get the opportunity again, as a union and as a club, to play against a Test side.”

The 39-year-old loose forward admitted he has been counting down to the fixture ever since it was announced, particularly after his recent injury battle.
“To represent your union and your club – a club that’s very dear to my heart and where I’ve spent almost my entire career – against a Test side like the All Blacks is a massive occasion.
“Like I said, 80 or 90% of these guys probably won’t get another opportunity to play against the All Blacks or face the haka. That’s something every little boy dreams about when he starts playing rugby and watches the Springboks take on the All Blacks. Most of these guys will probably get their only opportunity to experience that.”

Fourie has spent the past few months recovering from knee surgery and says he is ready if selected.
“I’m 10 or 11 weeks after the operation. Fitness-wise, I’ll probably only know if I play on Friday, but I’m definitely ready to go.”
The veteran said his previous experience against the All Blacks passed in a blur.
“The coaches picked my brain this morning. I can’t really remember much of those 77 minutes because it went by so quickly, but they’re great memories.”
