Still, there are some benefits to increasing the pack voltage, and the most obvious is that less cross-sectional area in copper will be needed to handle the same amount of power (offset by an increase in insulation thickness to withstand the higher voltage—but more on that later).
High efficiency of battery packs can be achieved by effectively charging, discharging and resting the battery cells at the right time. Unbalanced cells in a pack degrade the pack's performance and also the SOH of other cells. Till now, the SOH as a driving factor for reconfiguration has been least explored, except for the work done in .
It might not seem that increasing the pack voltage would have much effect on the pack itself, but there are a few issues that need to be considered, the most obvious being that a higher voltage is more likely to cause electrocution should one find oneself inadvertently part of the battery circuit.
A difference in cell voltages is a most typical manifestation of unbalance, which is attempted to be corrected either instantaneously or gradually through by-passing cells with higher voltage. However, the underlying reasons for voltage differences on the level of battery chemistry and discharge kinetics are not widely understood.
If the battery is allowed to charge past charging cutoff voltage, it can become damaged or may even explode. This is known as overcharging battery and it happens when a chemical reaction occurs between the cathode and anode electrodes on each cell of the battery.
To prevent over discharge of cells and resulting damage, battery managements system will terminate discharge if any of the cells reached low voltage threshold. Cell based termination voltage is usually set to lower value than pack based threshold divided by number of serial cells, so that the difference can allow for a small unbalance.

common mode voltage gets too high, the DMM''s input terminals can be damaged. For a DMM with a maximum common mode voltage of 500 V, the measurement of the final cell in the series would damage the low terminal of the DMM. We can avoid this by moving our common ground connection with the LO terminal of the DMM as shown in Figure 4b. Battery ...

UPS battery voltage is too high : r/batteries
This morning, with the battery charged, which showed 78.8V on the multimeter, I plugged it and powered it on and immediately display went RED, and constant beeping, and displaying "bATH" which means battery voltage is too high. I tried to discharge it and charge it two times, and every time the next morning it displayed the alarm.

Battery Resting Voltage: Can It Be Too High? Risks And Optimal …
Yes, battery resting voltage can be too high. Elevated resting voltage may indicate potential issues with battery health or performance. Excessive resting voltage can lead to thermal runaway in lithium-based batteries. This phenomenon occurs when a battery''s internal temperature rises uncontrollably, causing it to overheat and potentially fail.
