Charging characteristics curve of the lead-acid battery. The capacity of 160Ah, empty state of charge, and nominal voltage of 48 Vdc with 24 number of cells connected in series were considered and a result of SoC, voltage, and current versus time of lead-acid battery are presented in Fig. 6.
The capacity of the battery cell is considered as 80Ah, at an empty state of charge and a single cell with a nominal voltage of 2Vdc. The simulation output is provided with reduced convergence error and simulation time resulted from the development of an optimized model. Fig. 3. Charging characteristics curve of a lead-acid cell. Fig. 4.
The techno-economic simulation output provided that the system with Li-ion battery resulted in a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of 0.32 €/kWh compared to the system with lead-acid battery with LCOE of 0.34 €/kWh.
Due to their low initial investment, high residual value, and easy recycling, the LCOS of lead-carbon batteries is the lowest. Vanadium ions are the sole electrolyte ions of vanadium redox flow batteries. Changes in the valence state in vanadium ions occur during charging and discharging without the phase changes that other batteries commonly have.
The lead batteries have wide applications in telecommunications, uninterrupted power supply, electric traction, and energy storage for utilities, secure power, electric traction, and other domestic and commercial applications. The LCOS is a metric often applied to assess the economic competitiveness of different energy technologies.
An ECM model prepared using mathematical representation is presented for Li-ion and lead acid batteries. The ECM model identifies the technical characteristics of batteries. HOMER-Pro-based model is developed, and techno-economic analysis has been performed. The model estimates the economic contributions of the two batteries.
Lead–acid battery fundamentals
The essential reactions at the heart of the lead–acid cell have not altered during the century and a half since the system was conceived. As the applications for which lead–acid batteries have been employed have become progressively more demanding in terms of energy stored, power to be supplied and service-life, a series of life-limiting functions have been …
