By constructing an Energy Management System (EMS) specific to the hospitals, this study aims to present the significance of using an energy storage system and an optimum schedule for power utilization to prevent the lethal consequences arising from cut-offs and power quality issues.
This study also theoretically/scientifically contributes to the academic debate since the empirical findings found in the hospitals studied and the proposition of guidelines deepen and expand the key elements identified in the literature on efficient energy management in hospitals, providing the basis for developing new research on the subject. 1.
I’m sure many in the U.S. are aware of the backup generator failures that occurred at hospitals during hurricanes Katrina, Irene, and Sandy. It’s clear there’s a need for an onsite energy solution that delivers higher reliability, over longer periods, to the entire facility.
Hospital B is gradually replacing fluorescent lamps with LED lamps. Hospital C uses a solar energy capture system to heat the water in the boilers. This system replaces electrical energy for water heating. The replacement of fluorescent lamps with LED lamps has resulted in energy savings of 19,156kWh per month.
In this study, it is aimed to present the significance of the ESS for the healthcare sector to prevent the lethal consequences arising from electricity cut-offs and power quality issues. While doing this, it is also intended to construct an Energy Management System (EMS) specific to the hospital.
Hospitals have only recently considered these issues related to energy consumption in the context of environmental sustainability, unlike many other types of organizations that have been including them for some time in their business models (Chiarini and Vagnoni, 2016; Mousa and Othman, 2020).
