Thermal shrinkage A separator with low melting temperature tends to melt and shrink, which causes pore blockage and eventually terminates the ion transport between the electrodes . Thus, a separator with a shrinkage of <5% for 60 min at 200 °C has typically been desirable for LIBs .
Ceramic-coated separators and high melting point polymer materials offer some improvement in thermal stability and abuse tolerance for lithium-ion cell separators but, in general, more evaluation is needed to quantify the safety impact of these new separators.
