According to Kapoor et al. (2014), a solution to reduce the final cost of the product consists of manufacturing modules and cells supported by mechanisms that reduce the cost of input factors. In China, the reduction in costs of photovoltaic modules and the balance of the system originate from the domestic manufacture of components and equipment.
In May 2022, the European Commission adopted a new European Union (EU) Solar Energy Strategy aiming to ensure that solar energy achieves its full potential in helping to meet the European Green Deal's climate and energy targets. A goal of the strategy is to reach nearly 600 GW of installed solar photovoltaics (PV) capacity by 2030.
No matter how high the proportion of investment is, when the solar PV power generation exceeds the absorptive capacity of the grids, it is an infeasible solution. Therefore, increasing the proportion of the investment plays a limited role in the development of solar PV power under current situations.
This report clearly points out that solar PV is one of the strategic renewable technologies needed to realise the global energy transformation in line with the Paris climate goals. The technology is available now, could be deployed quickly at a large scale and is cost-competitive.
The installed capacity of photovoltaic energy can be increased by improving the technology of solar cells and by reducing the cost of the components of the manufacturing system (Liu et al., 2013).
We will consider some selected solar PV output power forecasting methods in this section. These methods include persistence, statistical, machine learning, and hybrid approaches. The persistence model involves the use of the solar PV output of the previous day at the same time.
