Large scale or grid scale Electrical Energy Storage systems (EESs) are one of the most viable solutions to address some of the issues related with the integration of large portion of renewables into the future grid and to facilitate their further penetration, guaranteeing the required flexibility and reliability of the electrical grid.
It was presented and analyzed an energy storage prototype for echelon utilization of two types (LFP and NCM) of retired EV LIBs with liquid cooling BTMS. To test the performance of the BTMS, the temperature variation and temperature difference of the LIBs during charging and discharging processes were experimentally monitored.
However, they have not been widely applied due to some limitations such as geographical constraints, high capital costs and low system efficiencies. Liquid air energy storage (LAES) has the potential to overcome the drawbacks of the previous technologies and can integrate well with existing equipment and power systems.
In terms of technological maturity, the high maturity and widespread application of PHES technology make it the preferred choice for large-scale energy storage, occupying 95 % of the global energy storage capacity .
The increasing global demand for reliable and sustainable energy sources has fueled an intensive search for innovative energy storage solutions . Among these, liquid air energy storage (LAES) has emerged as a promising option, offering a versatile and environmentally friendly approach to storing energy at scale .
The decreasing production costs of liquid air enable us to assess the feasibility of constructing liquid air energy storage (LAES) systems, which are particularly beneficial in regions like Kazakhstan with low electricity costs.
