Rapid development occurred recently in basic technology and market strategy of solar thermal power systems in China. DAHAN, the pioneer 1 MWe CRS, is now under construction at the foot of The Great Wall in Badaling Beijing.
The abundant desert and Gobi areas in North-West China hold enormous potential for large-scale deployment of solar thermal power systems. Solar thermal power has probably the greatest potential of any single renewable energy area to meet the national power structure adjustment demand and mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions.
While the investment required for solar thermal power plants remain high, China is working to reduce costs and promote commercialization. According to the China Solar Thermal Alliance, the cost of electricity from tower solar thermal plants is expected to drop to 0.61 yuan per kilowatt-hour (kWh) by 2025 and to about 0.53 yuan per kWh by 2027.
THE DESIGN OF A 1MW SOLAR THERMAL TOWER PLANT IN BEIJING, CHINA DAHAN solar plant and the testing platform of China solar thermal power technology would be has been constructed on the lands of the Yanqing District, Beijng, (Longitude 115°44′ to 116°34′ Latitude 40°16′ to 40°47′), 74 km north-west from the city of Beijng.
With Hami Solar Thermal Power Plant as a landmark project for the city, Hami has connected 16.208 million kW of installed capacity of new energy to the grid, the largest capacity in Xinjiang, by the end of 2023.
More detailed receiver two-phase thermodynamic model combined with flux distribution information on surface panels need to be developed. The construction completion of DAHAN which is regarded as the milestone in China's solar thermal power development will provide a test base for various solar thermal power research.
