Political tension on the use of land and water (for floating photovoltaics 57) may increase as solar shares rise. A rapid solar transition may also put at risk the livelihood of up to 13 million people worldwide working in fossil fuel industries and dependent industries.
The energy transition may well be determined by the phenomenon of S-curves. This is because the future energy system will be characterised by manufacturing technology, not extractive fossil fuel projects.
Lastly, resistance from declining industries may impact the transition. The pace of the transition depends not only on (economic) decisions by entrepreneurs, but also on how desirable policy makers consider it. Solar energy aligns with many policy objectives (clean air, poverty alleviation, energy security 54).
Most studies, and the evidence to date, now suggest the electricity transition will be dominated by the growth of wind and solar PV. Both these sources are now moving beyond “emergence” into the early stages of widespread global diffusion, demonstrating exponential growth rates.
Optimizing this balance is crucial for improving overall building energy efficiency and indoor environment quality. This study introduces a novel curved photovoltaic window design aimed at increasing daylight transmittance while maintaining the same photovoltaic area as a flat PV window.
