As a result of this industrial revolution, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have drawn much attention as a power generation source for varying applications, including the main utility-grid power supply.

Many countries are moving on to the use of solar PV energy generation systems for large-scale electricity generation. This is because it is a clean, renewable energy source with almost zero maintenance costs. It is estimated that solar PV electricity energy generation increased by 23% from 2019 to 2020, to reach a record high of 156 TWh.
Garrett Nilsen, deputy director of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, said other areas for innovation in solar panel manufacturing and deployment include different ingot and wafer types, wafering techniques and cell structures, or module architectures, along with cheaper, simpler and more resilient racking systems.
Grid-interactive solar PV inverters must satisfy the technical requirements of PV energy penetration posed by various country's rules and guidelines. Grid-connected PV systems enable consumers to contribute unused or excess electricity to the utility grid while using less power from the grid.
The report also concludes that grid expansion is affordable, thanks to growing efficiencies in grid technology and the increased electricity load, with DNV expecting global grid charges passed to consumers to remain stable or decline in the long term.
