In this paper, a new method of charging and repairing lead-acid batteries is proposed. Firstly, small pulse current is used to activate and protect the batteries in the initial stage; when the current approaches the optimal current curve, the phase constant current charging is used instead, when the voltage is low.
Charging of lead–acid cell Discharging of a lead–acid cell The chemical reaction takes place at the electrodes during charging. On charge, the reactions are reversible. When cells reach the necessary charge and the electrodes are reconverted back to PbO 2 and Pb, the electrolyte's specific gravity rises as the sulfur concentration is enhanced.
This is the conventional charging technique for charging the lead corrosive battery. The battery is charged by making the current consistent. It is a basic technique for charging batteries. The charging current is set roughly 10% of the greatest battery rating.
Lead–acid batteries’ long-term sustainability is often questioned. Many have claimed that only the lead–acid battery has no future, but this is nothing new, and amid decades of predictions to the contrary, the lead–acid battery continues to dominate the global battery energy storage market.
Sulphuric acid is consumed and water is formed which reduces the specific gravity of electrolyte from 1.28 to 1.18. The terminal voltage of each battery cell falls to 1.8V. Chemical energy is converted into electrical energy which is delivered to load. The lead-acid battery can be recharged when it is fully discharged.
According to recent research, the failure mode of lead–acid batteries is PAM weakening and shedding, and the battery lifespan is primarily confined to the positive electrode. As a consequence, the lead–acid battery has hit a stumbling block that must be addressed to improve the PAM of the lead–acid battery's efficiency.

Why an activated carbon monoxide alarm may indicate a battery charging …
The detector we have on board can be accessed via a phone app and it did indeed show it was a high level alarm and not a fault activation. On checking our batteries, one of the domestic cells (Varta lead acid) was too hot to touch and you could hear and feel it boiling! Needless to say we had a very lucky escape from a potential fire or explosion.

Charging lead acid batteries in series
This is a problem when series-charging lead-acid batteries and it is generally not recommended. The battery''s condition is dependant on the specific gravity of the sulphuric acid electrolyte. Of course the 6 individual 2V cells in each battery share the same electrolyte which is why they can be charged in series but separate batteries can''t.

Charging of lead-acid batteries
Lead acid charging uses a voltage-based algorithm that is similar to lithium-ion. The charge time of a sealed lead acid battery is 12–16 hours, up to 36–48 hours for large stationary batteries. With higher charge current s and multi-stage charge methods, the charge time can be reduced to 10 hours or less; however, the topping charge may not be complete.
