Energy storage system is a key solution for system operators to provide the required flexibility needed to balance the net load uncertainty. This study proposes a probabilistic approach for sizing a battery storage system (BSS) with the aim of mitigating the net load uncertainty associated with the off-grid wind power plant.
Battery storage system One of the most widely used batteries in off-grid renewable systems are Lead-acid batteries. They are known by their interesting depth of discharge and high cycling stability [5, 49 ]. The type of batteries used in this study is Sonnenschein A600 OPzV lead-acid battery; developed for medium to large scale applications .
Canales et al., proposed a model to estimate the optimal sizing of an off-grid hybrid power system coupled with a hybrid pumped-battery storage system . The obtained cost of energy ranges between 0.047 €/kWh and 0.095 €/kWh for the considered case study .
A sensitivity analysis performed over different installation years and discount rates reveals that for the off-grid alkaline system, the implementation of a wind farm as the sole power supply is the most economical solution until the installation years 2035–2040.
After reviewing the relevant literature, it can be noticed that there are no studies that have addressed off-grid hybrid PV-Wind power system coupled with hydraulic GES system as an energy storage technology.
