In such conditions, abandoned stone quarries hold promise for expanding the reservoir capacity for water supply systems. This paper presents a Geographic Information System (GIS) based technique to locate and use such abandoned stone quarries in drinking water supply systems.
One group of unnatural sites, namely crushed stone quarries, holds promise for expanding the reservoir capacity in water supply systems.
The quarries are located by field visits and traced on satellite image using waypoints that are stored in the GARMIN GPSMAP 78 series device. To understand the quality of water, a study based on water quality analysis of aquifers in stone quarries is carried out. The samples are tested in laboratories and are compared with IS-10500-1991.

Quarrying operations involve isolating blocks from the parent ledge by cutting them free on all sides perpendicular to each other. The basic quarrying sequence includes the following working steps: pre-production operations; primary cuts; secondary cuts and finishing of blocks and removal and haulage of blocks.
Organizational and managerial considerations Marble quarrying and processing can be further improved by adopting a series of measures that relate to the organizational structure of the marble-producing company and to specific management aspects of both day-to-day and long-term operation.
