In many cases, the maximum power output that can be used in a low-power transmitter is essentially determined by the spurious radiation and not by the maximum power specification. For example, the European specification EN300 220 allows10 mW output power but only 250 nW harmonics, a difference of 46 dB.
The recommended practice, and the convention used in this chapter, is that transmitter power densities are specified for the 1-meter distance from the center of the transmitting antenna. These transmit power densities are equivalent to RP (1 m) in the log-distance power model, which is described later.
The Bluetooth specification says the maximum transmission power can be +20 dBm. This is in table 3.1 in Vol 6, Part A, Section 3. Your Answer By clicking “Post Your Answer”, you agree to our terms of service and acknowledge you have read our privacy policy.
Limiting transmitter powerto the maximum required for a satisfactory level of performancewill reduce interference to collocated networks. Power control is mandatory for Class 1 Bluetooth systems, where maximum power is 100 mW. The effect of the power on the interference radius is evident in Eq. (12.1).
There is a maximum distance beyond which a given transmitter and antenna will not have enough power to be received by their corresponding receiver and antenna. Likewise, there is a distance below which there is simply too much power for the system to work.
The regulated maximum power density is the maximum allowed transmit power density permitted by an SM administration or a spectrum manager. In secondary use, a primary right may constrain the permitted transmission power of the secondary transmitter. In this case, we denote the constraining maximum transmit power density as pCM.

Maximum power transfer theorem
In electrical engineering, the maximum power transfer theorem states that, to obtain maximum external power from a power source with internal resistance, the resistance of the load must equal the resistance of the source as viewed from its output terminals. Moritz von Jacobi published the maximum power (transfer) theorem around 1840; it is also referred to as "Jacobi''s law".

Cell towers only transmit around 10 watts usually. Sometimes up to 50 or so in urban areas. Your phone can transmit up to 2 watts. Transmit power does obviously have a big effect on the range of a signal, but it is not nearly as much as you would think due to the 1/r 2 relationship of radio waves propagating out from the source.
