Electricity, an indispensable part of modern life, can be employed for water purification. It is noteworthy that solar panels convert sunlight into electricity through the photovoltaic effect, which, when combined with mobile power sources, facilitates the storage of electricity, thus achieving the cyclical utilization of green energy.
In this study, we propose a solar-electric dual-driven water purification system that is assembled by a hydrogel-encapsulated electrically heated mesh evaporator, a solar panel, and a mobile power source. This system utilizes a combination of photothermal and Joule heating effects to significantly enhance the interfacial evaporation rate.
In summary, we have successfully developed an efficient all-weather solar-electric dual-driven water evaporation system with photothermal and Joule heating effects through the preparation of carbon-based hydrogel encapsulated with an electric heating mesh.
This long-term outdoor evaporation indicates that our system exhibits excellent stability during solar thermal evaporation, with water collection rates ranging from 0.5 ∼ 3.1 kg m −2 d −1 on consecutive rainy days upon variation in weather conditions (Fig. 5e).
