In the design of an agrivoltaic system, it is important to first consider the type of crop and its light requirements , its response to shade, irrigation levels, and parameters related to evapotranspiration and temperature and humidity preservation as well as the type of livestock to be included and its temperature and shade requirements.
Cossu et al. (2018) studied four different configurations of greenhouses structure (mono-pitched roof, Venlo, gable roof) in Sardinia, Italy, with PV covering ratio varies from 25% to 100%. The study aimed to analyze the coverage ratio, greenhouse orientation, gutter height, and arrangement of PV pattern by computer simulation.
The results indicated that the solar collector system increased the inside temperature of the greenhouse by 5 °C and created a suitable environment for tomato cultivation. Also, they mentioned that the solar collector supplied part of the heating load; the remainder was obtained from the electric grid.
The review also revealed that the integration of semi-transparent PV solar technologies is a possible prospect for greenhouses. Furthermore, the review identified STC collectors, with and without concentration and storage technologies, to heat the greenhouse's interior and decrease fossil fuel needs.

The design and assessment of agrivoltaics open new perspectives if the system is approached as a three-dimensional pattern characterized by a certain degree of randomness, both in the horizontal and vertical arrangement of the modules. The limit point is that PV modules fade out in space, with possible new related ecological performances.
