This research shows that carbon derived from rice husks and wood grain can generate electrical voltage, but the resulting voltage is still low compared to commercial batteries. In addition, batteries with electrolyte solutions that have a salt percentage of 10% provide the most voltage.
Rice wastes (especially rice husk) have a considerable performance to be used as a precursor of electrochemical energy storage (EES) electrodes including the electrodes of batteries, supercapacitors, and hybrid EES devices.
The electrochemical results of the EES electrodes from rice biochar materials have determined the considerable electrochemical performance of the rice wastes biochar (especially rice husk). The rice wastes have three significant advantages including environmental, economical, and electrochemical features.
Rice has been widely cultivated in the world especially in Asian countries. Therefore, rice wastes especially rice husk can be used for biomass valorization procedures. The rice biochar materials have been used to fabricate the EES electrodes including the electrodes of the batteries, supercapacitors, and hybrid EES devices.
The biochar-based electrodes from rice husk for the hybrid EES devices as an important subject should be widely developed in the next studies because of the great importance of the hybrid EES devices. The top ten SSA values of the rice-based biochar materials have been listed in Table 7.
Most publications in rechargeable batteries have used rice biochar to fabricate the anode of the rechargeable batteries. Only 3 publications have used the rice biochar to prepare the cathode for Li–S batteries. Therefore, the preparation of the biochar-based cathodes especially for Li–S batteries should be widely developed in the next studies.
