That type of motor is called a permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor. The following is based on that assumption. Changing the capacitor value changes the amplitude and phase shift of the current in the auxiliary winding. Reducing the capacitor value lowers the torque values of the torque vs. speed curve as shown below.
The poor speed regulation that is inherent in this method has no significance for the control of dc series motors, since the speed characteristic of a dc series motor is a rapidly drooping curve.
Using the KL2791 single-phase AC motor terminal, a single-phase AC motor with a maximum power consumption of 0.1 kW can be operated with speed control depending on the process data.
This method is not so easy to do with an AC speed control motor. Alternately, the AC voltage can be adjusted by setting the ON/OFF time of every half cycle of the AC voltage (50 or 60Hz) applied to the motor using a switching element (thyristor or triac) that can directly turn on and off the AC voltage as shown Fig. 7 and Fig. 8.
In order to reduce the power consumption of single-phase AC motors, their speed can be regulated as required. Depending on the process data, the speed can be reduced in the case of low load requirements in order to reduce noise emissions, increase energy eficiency and prolong the service life of the units.
Using a controller that provides a pulsed PWM signal to the motor, you may achieve much better motor speed management. One method of implementing this, and the one employed here, is to have a circuit that provides a fixed output pulse duration while altering the frequency of the pulses to modify the motor speed.
