To address these issues, we present a decentralised battery man- agement system with no communication requirement based on a modular multilevel converter topology with a distributed inductor and distributed controller running on a local microprocessor. This configuration is referred to as a “smart cell”.
With the aim of replying to the questions mentioned in the introduction section related to the economic feasibility and the CO 2 emissions comparing a centralized versus a decentralized model for EOL EV batteries’ treatment in Europe, this study selected Germany as the country where this facility should be placed in the centralized scenario.
To this end, this study analyses the feasibility of installing a battery dismantling plant in Spain as an example of a decentralised case and compares it with the centralised option in Germany.
