In this standard, the insulation resistance test is a recommended test to determine the battery insulation resistance. It is required that the measurement of the battery's insula-tion resistance include auxiliary components in the housing like temperature conditioning devices and liquids.

To determine the condition of insulation resistance of the negative side of the battery pack with respect to ground the megger was used. When using the megger for testing, the bleeder resistors were left connected and the results re ect them.
The insulation resistance between the positive terminal and externally exposed metal surfaces of the battery excluding electrical contact surfaces shall be not less than 5 MW at 500V DC. Applicable to cells and batteries subjected to the external short circuit, thermal abuse, crush and forced internal short circuit tests.
All tests were performed at room temperature of 22:5 C. The battery was short circuited during all the tests performed to eliminate the chances of charging up the battery again. The battery pack voltage was maintained at approximately 27 mV during testing.
The results from insulation resistance tests combined with environmental tests under varying temperature and humidity conditions show that the presence of moisture on the insulating surfaces of the battery greatly decreases the insulation resistance of the battery.
For measuring the isolation resistance of the battery system, a test instrument shall be connected between the live parts and the electrical chassis. Then, the isolation resistance is measured by applying a DC voltage.
