The National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration, in their 2022 Implementation Plan on Promoting New Energy's High-Quality Development, set a target to reach a combined installed capacity of over 1.2 TW for wind and solar power by 2030.
EnergyPLAN was used to create the hourly balanced energy system model in China and five scenarios were proposed to assess the possible contribution of the 12th FYP for China's future energy system. Regarding non-fossil fuel share in primary energy, the 12th FYP target 5 can be easily achieved in almost all scenarios.
At the center of China‟s 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) was a target to decrease the overall energy intensity of the economy by 20 percent. This target was implemented in response to increases in energy intensity experienced between 2002 and 2005, the first increase experienced after several decades of rapidly decreasing energy intensity.
