The life status of different commercial lithium-ion batteries has illustrated in Fig. 1 [, , , , , , ]. It shows that the mainstream commercial LFP batteries for ESS currently meet the standard of 5000 cycles of cycle life and a 10-year calendar life.
In summary, with the widespread adoption of lithium-ion batteries, the development of long-life batteries has become critical scientific issues in the current battery research field. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of long-life lithium-ion batteries in typical scenarios, with a primary focus on long-life design and management.
Sustainability and Recycling Assessment: With the increasing emphasis on sustainability, the secondary use of aged lithium-ion batteries and the material recycling industry is gaining momentum. However, different aging factors may lead to variations in the electrochemical performance and safety of the batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries offer a contemporary solution to curb greenhouse gas emissions and combat the climate crisis driven by gasoline usage. Consequently, rigorous research is currently underway to improve the performance and sustainability of current lithium-ion batteries or to develop newer battery chemistry.
The ideal charging and discharging processes of lithium-ion batteries are reversible electrochemical reactions. However, over time, the polarization of these reactions and the degradation of active materials can compromise their reversibility, resulting in decreased battery capacity and power [6, 7].
It considers the lifetime degradation and thermal hazardous evolution behaviors of lithium-ion batteries under various complex environments, such as charging and discharging conditions, temperatures, vibrations, pressures, and humidity.

Gel Battery Lifespan Vs Lithium Battery: Showdown
Lithium batteries can cost about 50% more right off the bat. How Long They Last and Replacement Costs: Gel batteries can go through 500-1,000 charge cycles. Lithium batteries can handle at least 2,000 cycles, meaning you won''t need to replace them as often. Over time, the longer life of lithium batteries can make up for their higher starting price.
