The effect of solar cell capacitance in the electrical characterization of photovoltaic (PV) modules at Standard Test Conditions (STC) is known since the 1990s.
The electrical behaviour of a solar cell can be described in classical physics terms with the equivalent circuit of figure 1, which represents the single diode capacitive model of a solar cell.
The temperature showed to have remarkable and degrading effects on the performance of photovoltaic solar modules in the passive as well as in the active conditions. The effect of temperature is also a degrading factor when considering power and efficiency in solar cells and modules.
The capacitor represents the accumulation of charges in the PV device. The capacitance of a PV device is attributed to both junction capacitance and diffusion capacitance, both of which are voltage dependent.
Eight methods to address and mitigate the effect of cell capacitance in the measurement of Pmpp in the experimental practice were reviewed, highlighting their weaknesses and strengths. Finally, a comprehensive uncertainty analysis was pro-posed, summarizing results from the theory and experi-mental practice.
Cell capacitance can therefore be ignored in the evaluation of the uncertainty for the short-circuit current. 5.2. Uncertainty contribution to the open-circuit voltage VOC,dir = VOC .
