The battery is one of the two electric sources on the demonstrator, the other being an "e-Auxiliary power Unit" (e-APU) provided by Safran. We started to work on the high voltage Li-ion a few years ago and for this prototype we designed it entirely in-house Julien Laurent, Airbus Battery Project Leader
Lightweight, compact, with very high battery power and energy density: the battery reaches these goals thanks to several years of research and development as part of Airbus’ aircraft electrification and sustainability initiatives. Less powerful high-voltage batteries were previously installed on CityAirbus and Airbus Helicopters FlightLab.
Airbus stands as a key actor in the space domain. As the prime contractor for spacecraft, Airbus has an in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge technologies employed in space batteries. Explore our legacy of excellence in space battery solutions. Learn about Space battery products. A battery product line for LEO Optical/Radar missions.
In fact, China’s ascension to battery development superpower has been vertiginous: the country is expected to produce 70% of the world’s EV batteries by 2021. This is why Airbus has selected the Airbus China Innovation Centre (ACIC) in Shenzhen as the location for a new battery lab.
With the Li-ion technology, Airbus has developed battery products for Space applications and now stands as a key actor in the Space battery industry.
Airbus is starting up testing on a new high-voltage lithium-ion battery system that will be used to power the EcoPulse demonstrator aircraft. Under development for several years, the battery can achieve 800 volts DC and deliver 350 kilowatts, enough to power the six electric motors on the EcoPulse, whose airframe is being assembled by Daher.
