Let us see the different applications of capacitors. Some typical applications of capacitors include: 1. Filtering: Electronic circuits often use capacitors to filter out unwanted signals. For example, they can remove noise and ripple from power supplies or block DC signals while allowing AC signals to pass through.
The first objective in selecting input capacitors is to reduce the ripple voltage amplitude seen at the input of the module. This reduces the rms ripple current to a level which can be handled by bulk capacitors. Ceramic capacitors placed right at the input of the regulator reduce ripple voltage amplitude.
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, the amount and type of capacitance can vary. The traditional method of designing with a feedforward capacitor is to add an external capacitor (Cff) in parallel with the high-side feedback resistor, R1 in Figure 1. The capacitor value is chosen based on the values of the feedback resistors to place the geometric mean of the pole and zero at the unity gain crossover frequency.
