Silicon-based solar cells are still dominating the commercial market share and continue to play a crucial role in the solar energy landscape. Photovoltaic (PV) installations have increased exponentially and continue to increase. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of cumulative PV installations was 30% between 2011 and 2021 .
In the conclusion of this Review, we discuss the challenges that remain, and we offer a perspective on how the field can continue to advance to 25-year and 30-year stable perovskite solar modules. Because of their remarkable properties, metal-halide perovskite (MHP) semiconductors have ushered in a new era of solar cell research.
In this regard, governments may employ politically motivated interventions to support the adoption of PV systems and foster markets that favor this technology. Nonetheless, it is important to note that such initiatives may temporarily disrupt the functioning of a natural market. 3. Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
Implementation of innovative technologies and industry involvement will help in the rapid transition from laboratory to industrial manufacturing, and therefore, will facilitate the commercialization of perovskite photovoltaics.
This, in turn, affects the solar cells’ properties, particularly their efficiency and performance. The current laboratory record efficiencies for monocrystalline and multicrystalline silicon solar cells are 26.7% and 24.4%, respectively .
However, challenges remain in several aspects, such as increasing the production yield, stability, reliability, cost, and sustainability. In this paper, we present an overview of the silicon solar cell value chain (from silicon feedstock production to ingots and solar cell processing).
