To estimate the solar irradiance attenuation, we started with the European Solar Radiation Atlas (ESRA) clear sky model, which requires the Linke turbidity index to determine the theoretical local solar irradiance of a clear sky [ 32, 33 ].
Solar irradiance attenuation is caused mainly by the presence of gases in the atmosphere, aerosols, clouds and dust particles, amongst others things.
Phenomena that contribute to the attenuation of solar radiation in cloudless atmosphere are the extinction due to aerosols, molecular diffusion (or Rayleigh), and gaseous absorption.
The light attenuation model needs to evaluate the angle-dependent light propagation at material interfaces and pathlength-dependent absorption within materials to describe light scattering of ceramic prints. The optical model described in the next section is capable of taking both effects into account.
Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) power prediction is a key technology to improve the control and scheduling performance of PV power plant and ensure safe and stable grid operation with high-ratio PV power generation.
For example, the attenuation of solar radiation during a very dusty day reaches 40–50% in Greece because of desert dust (Kosmopoulos et al. 2017 ).
