Unlike all other sensorless solar trackers, the proposed solar tracking system was a closed loop system which used the instantaneous direction of the sun to track the sun direction. The tracker had the advantages of both closed loop and open loop based double axis solar trackers, but it does not have their disadvantages.
A solar panel precisely perpendicular to the sun produces more power than one not aligned. The main application of solar tracking system is to position solar photovoltaic (PV) panels towards the Sun. Most commonly they are used with mirrors to redirect sunlight on the panels.
When this design is compared with previous type of solar tracking sensors, it showed wide field of view, accuracy and effectiveness. Abdallah and Nijmeh (2004) proposed a two axes solar tracker with programmable logic controller which is used to control the motion of the solar tracking surface.
It is an advanced sun monitoring system that can rotate the panels to track the movement of the sun across the sky. It facilitates the panel system to trap the maximum sunlight and optimise the energy output. There are considerable advantages to using a solar energy tracker.
The comparison between the energy returns of the both tracking arrangements (single and double) with the fixed traditional PV systems revealed that the sun tracking system's energy return is always higher than that of the traditional fixed PV panels.
Costs and availability of solar tracking system The cost of energy generated from a PV tracking system is higher than the energy produced from a fixed system because of the running cost and the initial cost of the tracking system, which makes their economic advantages questionable .
